A South Jersey dog groomer has been indicted on charges of animal cruelty and drug offenses after a customer’s dog died in his care in July, according to court records.
Trevor Hunt, who owns K-9 Kingdom on Glassboro Road in Woodbury Heights, faces four charges, including third-degree animal cruelty for allegedly neglecting the pet while it was under his supervision. Hunt was arrested on July 12 after informing a customer that their dog, a 3-year-old border collie-Australian shepherd mix named Harley, had died shortly after being dropped off for grooming.
Following Harley’s death, authorities conducted a search of Hunt’s business. According to police, Hunt was uncooperative during the search, which led to his arrest. Police also reported finding a significant quantity of narcotics on the premises.
A necropsy performed on Harley did not indicate any drugs in her system or reveal a cause of death, Woodbury Police Chief Tom Ryan told NJ Advance Media.
The grand jury indictment also includes charges of tampering with evidence, with prosecutors alleging that Hunt deleted text messages after learning investigators intended to search his phone.
