Chef Angel grew up in Woodbridge and Perth Amboy, surrounded by influences from his Puerto Rican and Filipino roots, as well as a melting pot of friends and family from all walks of life. “When my friends were eating my picadillo empanadas with sweet plantains and said, ‘You should sell this,’ I thought maybe they were onto something,” Angel shared. He dove headfirst into the culinary world, starting at prep stations and mom-and-pop kitchens, and meticulously building his skills at places like the Grand Marquis in Old Bridge and El Nido in Marlboro.
