It’s still early in 2026 and New Jersey is seeing a surge in layoffs, with several major companies announcing workforce reductions across the state. Data from the state’s WARN notices show that hundreds of employees—across multiple industries—are affected.

According to the New Jersey Department of Labor, companies have filed notices signaling temporary or permanent layoffs in January and February. The largest reported cuts include:

  • Bristol Myers Squibb, Lawrence Township – 247 workers
  • Amazon, multiple counties – Bergen (417), Passaic (240), Monmouth (141), Hudson (44), Statewide (29)
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ, Newark – 242 workers
  • SFC Global Supply Chain, Robbinsville – 170 workers

Other notable employers include Macy’s, Target, Walmart, and T-Mobile, with layoffs ranging from dozens in some cases to hundreds in others.

The notices cover single-date layoffs and slower, phased reductions that span several months. For example, Arrow Fastener in Saddle Brook plans reductions on four separate dates throughout 2026, affecting 140 employees in total.

State labor officials said these notices are intended to give workers advance warning, allowing them time to seek new employment, training opportunities, and more. However, the numbers highlight a growing trend of instability within the workforce—especially the retail, logistics, and corporate sectors.

While WARN notices don’t always indicate permanent job loss, they can signal larger shifts in business outlook. It’s not just workers who are affected. The impacts extend to local economies and communities where these companies operate.

For New Jersey workers, the layoffs highlight the importance of staying informed about job markets. As certain sectors terminate hundreds of jobs, it’s best to stay ahead of the curve.
