More than 20 acclaimed chefs will gather in Eatontown this week to cook for a worthwhile cause.
JAR of Hope—a nonprofit organization supporting research and fundraising for Duchenne muscular dystrophy—will host its annual Chefs For a Cure event this Thursday at The TillingHouse at Suneagles Golf Club.
JAR of Hope: The Mission
The Chefs For a Cure event gathers more than 20 acclaimed chefs, vendors, and more under one roof for a curated culinary and beverage tasting, benefiting research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy—a fatal, genetic, muscle-wasting disorder, primarily affecting boys.
Most kids living with DMD are wheelchair-bound by approximately 12-years-old. Many do not survive past their mid-20s due to complications stemming from the disease. No cure currently exists.
JAR of Hope was started by Jim and Karen Raffone after their son James—who goes by Jamesy—was diagnosed with DMD at age four. Their mission is to fund a dedicated team of research scientists and doctors working toward a cure, while also providing direct support to families affected by the tragic disease.
Around 300,000 boys across the world live with DMD, and around 20,000 in the U.S. alone. “For families like ours, every day and every dollar counts… Because no child should have to suffer like this,” said the organization.
