National Tequila Day: Where to Go & What to Drink

National Tequila Day

Brenna Holland

It’s a rainy Monday morning in Hudson County. The situation cannot be sugarcoated. Once again, a beautiful, good-weather weekend has bled into the beginning of an overcast workweek.

But do not despair, or allow a case of the Mondays to overtake your spirit. Break out the sunrises, slammers and spritzers, because today is National Tequila Day.

Get a jump on happy hour right now by checking out our suggestions for where to get the best tequila cocktails on this blessed day.

Smoky Jalapeno Margarita – Black Ant

The Black Ant

Located on 2nd Ave in the East Village, the Black Ant is a contemporary Mexican bar and restaurant with a dark, funky atmosphere. Order the Paloma or the Smoky Jalapeno Margarita. Bring a daredevil friend along and share a plate of roasted grasshoppers in between tequila shots.

Orale Mexican Kitchen

On Grove Street in Jersey City, this vibrant, “Day of the Dead” themed hangout serves Mexican comfort food and a lot of tequila. When you walk in you will see a food menu, a drink menu, a desert menu and a tequila menu. Choose from a diverse selection of margaritas and ask that they add their Muddled Serranos to turn up the heat.

Tequila Honeysuckle Martini – Porter Collins

Porter Collins

Hoboken’s newest bar and eatery is located on Willow Avenue. Serving up modern American dishes in a stylish atmosphere, Porter Collins has proven a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Order the Tequila Honeysuckle Martini for one, or the large format margarita for you and three friends to share. (Or order the large format margarita just for yourself. I won’t judge)

Dullboy

Also located on Grove Street in Jersey City, Dullboy serves classic American dishes alongside an array of specialty cocktails. Esquire Magazine named Dullboy one of the “best bars in America.” Order the Siesta. You will not be disappointed.

Frozen Margarita – Bonney Read

The Bonney Read

Are you still at the beach? If so, I think you should grab some shelter from the rain and a Frozen Margarita from this seafood spot on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park. This nautical-themed bar and restaurant has plenty of tequila to choose from. Try their Strawberry Blonde or their Rhubarb Royale alongside a delicious seafood dish of your choosing.

Happy National Tequila Day!
