This week was a terrible time to realize I’m out of wine and beer. Luckily, I always keep Bulleit or Camus on the shelf. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great, but after a long day of quarantine and chill, I’d like to unwind with a Departed Soles Imperial Belgian Ale. Or maybe a bottle of red to go with my third box of pasta in two days (don’t judge, us Italians have a lot of frozen sauce to go through during these trying times).
Fortunately, we live in an area packed with spirit delivery options. From our tried and true neighborhood liquor stores to restaurants making their inventory available for purchase, here are some of our favorite ways to stock up on spirits during social distancing.
Departed Soles Brewing Company
Early this morning, the Jersey City microbrewery announced via social media that they are now delivering to all of Hudson County (even including Harrison and East Newark). Departed Soles opened back in 2015, and has quickly become a local favorite with its craft and gluten-free options. (If you haven’t seen their brews at nearby restaurants, chances are you’ve been living under a rock. We’ll let it slide this time.)
“We have two more can options today and will continue to evolve the options as this develops! Minimums have changed a little for the new territories, but fees remain the same. 6 p.m. is the last call for same-day deliveries!
Of course, if you live closer to one of our brewery sisters or brothers, we suggest hitting them up too! Or one of our retail distro partners that can deliver. But please, stay the frick home. If too many people keep going out, you know they’ll stop letting us do this!”
You can also support the microbrewery by purchasing t-shirts and accessories here.
CoolVines (Powerhouse)
CoolVines in Downtown Jersey City have put their delivery program into full effect, after previously closing to in-store shoppers as instructed days ago. The best way to make a new order is via their website, where you can shop wines by country, region, price and more. Be sure to place your orders before 4 p.m. if you’d like it delivered the same day.
The team expressed their gratitude towards everyone a couple of days ago via their Instagram account:
“THANK YOU TO ALL COOLVINES CUSTOMERS THIS WEEK! The respect and kindness people are showing one another in our stores is really uplifting. We will continue to ask customers and employees to practice social distancing and honor the six feet suggested by the CDC.”
Super Buy-Rite
Typically one of the quickest ways to get spirits on-demand locally is via Super Buy-Rite’s app (which you can download here). You can also get 15% off by using the discount code “Digest” for all non-sale items on the app, buyritewines.com or via [email protected].
Previously, orders can be delivered in a chosen two-hour time slot window. Those times may be extended as the Buy-Rite team is experiencing a higher than normal volume of orders. You can also shop staff picks by Digest contributor Neil Shrodo here.
Frankie
By now you’ve probably figured out that this Aussie-inspired restaurant and bar has become one of the places I frequent. I’ve become truly enamored of their vibe, décor and natural wine selection. The Frankie staff has already begun doing curbside takeaway and ready-made meals to cook at your convenience. As of yesterday, they’ve also made a selection of wines available for curbside. Check them out below:
Sparrow Wine & Liquor Co.
The Sparrow Wine & Liquor Co. team has been rolling with the punches since business closures began earlier this week. Not only can you call Hoboken’s local go-to spirits shop by phone to place orders for pick-up or delivery, but you can actually still visit either store (Uptown or Downtown) but they will limit that to 10 people at one time. If you’re like me, you’ll probably be staying in. In that case, call the numbers below depending on where you are in town:
Downtown Store: 201-659-1500
Uptown location: 201-659-1501
Shop their two wines of the year here.
