Roller skating is having a moment in 2020. One of the better trends to come out of that six-month quarantine. Folks are taking to the streets and moving their bodies by way of jam skating—a roller skating style that consists of dance, gymnastics and some *actual* skating. Don’t be fooled by the ease of these viral videos, though. These TikTokers and roller skating Instagram accounts are one seriously talented bunch, each more unique than the next.
From the eye-catching fashion to catchy song selection, these skaters have become the apple of the Internets eye. And the envy of viewers everywhere. After some investigative swiping, I’ve picked a few of my favorite skaters to follow. Some of which have acquired quite a level of fame over the past few months.
While assembling this list wasn’t easy—you should see my Saved folder—each of these skaters have unknowingly tricked me into thinking that I maybe could do this one day too. (Just like when I became obsessed with American figure skater Tara Lipinski and got ice skates for Christmas.) This year, my sights aren’t set quite so high. Although, I hope Santa hears my plea for a pair of wheels.
If you’re not already convinced to lace up, here are seven roller skating Instagram accounts and TikTokers that are taking over the Internet, one viral video at a time.
1. @anaocto
This roller skater’s level of fame just reached new heights—seriously though, actress/dancer Ana Coto just appeared in Dua Lipa’s music video for “Levitating.” What started as a hobby quickly escalated to millions of followers across platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, where celebs including Reese Witherspoon have even expressed their admiration and envy. You can catch Coto skating through the sunny, palm-tree lined streets of Los Angeles, jamming along to the tunes of artists like SZA, Sam Smith and Rosalía. Her signature move? The strut. Making the whole thing look effortlessly cool, and easy, for that matter.

On his social media pages, Snowden frequently shares tutorials and video clips of him skating along with his team and like-minded community. For more, check out his YouTube channel.

A self-proclaimed “funky disco rollerskater,” Kelsey Griffen is lighting up social media with her upbeat persona and fun-loving skating style. Catch her sporting bell-bottoms, oversized ’70s sunglasses and a fanny pack to go along with her vintage soundtrack. Did someone say, Fleetwood Mac?

4. @rollerbunni
This 24-year-old skater, who goes by Bunni, jumped on the rollerblading quarantine trend and began her journey not too long ago in June 2020. Her motto? “Fall until you don’t.” Bunni is serving up major #inspo for first-timers everywhere, often sporting trendy fits to compliment her groovy skating style. You can catch her sharing her practice sessions from the skate park, empty garage parking lots and Cali boardwalks.

5. @sebeeychi
Hailing from Los Angeles, @sebeeychi’s IG page is the perfect combo of the latest in Hip-Hop and R&B music mixed with some seriously smooth moves. Think Tory Lanez, Big Sean and Chris Brown meets jam skating. It’s hard to believe his journey only began in March of 2020, but once you stumble across this account, it’ll be hard to look away. Good vibes only.

6. @frankvinyl_skates
Progress, not perfection is the phrase gracing the bio of @frankvinyl_skates. Cali girl Francesca is serving dreamy, West Coast energy on both her personal and professional skating page. Think sorbet shades, sunset skating sessions and candy-colored outfits. You can keep up with Francesa on her YouTube channel where she documents her life as a blogger, content creator and skater.

7. @lolo.skates
Lauren Perrino, or @lolo.skates, often takes her roller skating game to the streets of the Northeast. Based out of Maine, her boho vibes fit in perfectly with the forests of The Pine Tree State. She’s got an old school, alternative taste in music that matches her flowy skating style. Watch her videos for a peaceful, albeit mesmerizing, reprieve.
