Rashad Wright, a 24-year-old New Jersey poet, will release his book “Romeo’s Whiskey” on Saturday February 29 at Mana Contemporary’s first floor theater (learn more about the space here). To celebrate the release of the new title, which features a collection of biographical essays and poetry, Wright will perform theatrical adapations of the book’s excerpts including song, dance and audience participation. “Romeo’s Whiskey” is a coming of age story that touches upon Wright’s enlistment in the National Guard, family dynamtics and personal identity.
Rashad Wright was previously named Jersey City’s poet laureate and poetry slam champion. He is the city’s first poet laureate in more than a decade. The New Jersey City University alum has been performing poetry for over seven years since his time at Marist High School in Bayonne. His works typically include mixed elements of fiction and memoir.
