How CBD Works With Human Body

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the many compounds found in plants of the cannabis family. Mammals all have cannabinoid receptors in our nervous systems. Our endocannabinoid system includes a series of molecules and receptors that work to keep our bodies in balance. If you are struggling with stressors, from regular stiffness and nerve pain to spinning anxious thoughts, CBD dosing can help.

About Cannabidiol

When cannabidiol plugs into your cannabinoid receptors, it alters the transmission of data throughout the nervous system. While THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, creates a sense of euphoria and disconnection or high, cannabidiol tends to limit transmission to create calm or sleepiness.

How Cannabidiol Works Led to the Discovery of the Endocannabinoid System?

It is important to note that the popularity of cannabidiol did not create the endocannabinoid system. Instead, this system was discovered in the 1990s. Research about how cannabinoids impact the nervous system, particularly among those who struggle with seizures, led to the discovery.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

Your endocannabinoid system is made up of three things:

  • receptors receive the endocannabinoids
  • naturally occurring endocannabinoids
  • enzymes, which break down endocannabinoids

The endocannabinoid system impacts nearly every facet of our physical comfort, from hunger to sleep to our immune system.

Overview Of Each Component

The receptors pick up molecules in the CB1 or the CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors relate to the central nervous system and are helpful in the commonly known considerations such as reducing stiffness and pain, limiting anxious thoughts, and improving sleep.

CB2 receptors, which impact the immune system, are also affected by endocannabinoids. Enzymes break down the endocannabinoids that naturally occur in the body. Again, the endocannabinoid system is constantly seeking balance. Too much of any cannabinoid product can cause stomach upset and diarrhea because you are out of balance.

How Cannabidiol Works in the Human Body

Cannabidiol binds to the receptors in the endocannabinoid system. A full dose generally creates sleepiness, while a microdose can hold off discomfort and anxious thoughts. Many who microdose CBD use basic cannabidiol formats and simply stretch out the dose.

For example, when you need to sleep, you can take a full dose of the product under the tongue. If you find that you are also dealing with anxious thoughts or discomfort throughout the day, you can

  • mix isolate powder into a cold drink
  • use a vaping pen for a puff or two
  • put a partial dropper into a cup of coffee

It should be noted that you cannot build up a tolerance to cannabidiol. You will not need more dosage over time to get the same results. Keep a journal to track your need, your intake, and the results over time. Once you set your dose, stick with it. If you notice any diarrhea or stomach upset, dial back your dosage.

The science of the endocannabinoid system is growing. Cannabidiol for adults currently has only anecdotal evidence of benefits. If you and your doctor can agree that this product may help you, be ready to treat your dosage and results like an experiment so you can determine what works for you.
