Coffee lovers look no further, we have found the perfect bohemian oasis that offers coffee flights. Yes, you heard it correctly–a coffee tasting menu. Nestled in an off-the-beaten-path complex in Verona, NJ–The Compound Coffee Co. offers unique concoctions of specialty-brewed coffee in an atmosphere that emits great vibes.
The Compound Coffee Co, pioneered by Dannielle and Brian Kermizian, initially opened as a high-end training and fitness studio. Both lovers of coffee, they decided to expand the Compound into a gym and coffee shop, with comfy workspaces hidden throughout. Since the addition, it has evolved into a space for the community to gather through either group fitness or blissful coffee sipping purposes.
The Vibes
Once you stumble upon this gem, you’ll transport to a breezy coastal shore town dotted with patio tables, cozy wicker chairs, and pots of plants draped from the ceilings. With an added touch of 90’s rock queued in the background, you’ll want to spend your entire afternoon soaking up the good vibes. Every corner of the shop acts as the perfect, photo-ready backdrop. Over an insta-worthy display of coffee–with tastes to match the looks–spill hot gossip with a friend, snuggle up with a book, or bring a laptop and get some work done.
If you are someone that has trouble deciding what you want, the flights are the perfect way to experiment with a bunch of different flavors. The baristas are noticeably passionate about the coffee they roast in house, and help you curate the perfect combination of drinks.
The Flights
Going down the line, the matcha latte–made with organic rishi matcha green tea–was the perfect introduction to the tasting. A vibrant, earthy palate cleanser. Next up was The Compound’s signature drink, the Zephyr. Essentially a dirty chai, this drink features two shots of espresso, steamed milk, a splash of masala chai, and a dash of their house-made honey. A bit of zing from the caffeine and pop of spice from the masala will have you buzzing. Literally.
Next taste was the salted honey latte–featuring a double shot of espresso, cold-foamed milk spiked with honey, a dash of Madagascar vanilla, and a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt. The mingling of salty and sweet created a decidedly balanced cup. For the finale, the barista recommended a winter speciality drink called the Love Potion–made with masala chai, mocha, a dash of cherry, and salted vanilla steamed foam. This sweet and silky blend was the perfect closer to a caffeine-forward tasting.
Bottom Line
For the coffee drinkers out there, whether it’s Starbucks or a home-brewed pot that fuels your day–expand your horizons and check out The Compound Coffee Co. For the non-coffee drinkers out there, enjoy an array of caffeine-free options in a space that is conducive to good music, conversation, and all-around vibes. The offered flights means you can customize your experience exactly as you see fit. It’s a win for everyone!
