After 102 years in business, a legendary Bergen County farm stand has has closed for good. DePiero’s Farm Stand & Greenhouses opened in 1924 and has served Montvale with fresh fruits and vegetables ever since. Their last day was August 28.
The news comes as a shock to many Bergen County locals—many of whom have been shopping at DePiero’s for decades.
“It’s been a rollercoaster. We knew it was coming, but it came way too fast,” Tammy DePiero-Palmieri, part of the operating family, said in an interview. She cites rising costs as one of the primary reasons for closing.
DePiero’s announced the closure on Facebook last week. Longtime customers and locals shared their love for the farm stand in the comments.
One customer called the DePiero family “the most amazing farmers in the area,” while another recalled fond memories of working there in high school.
As for what comes next, DePiero-Palmieri said she plans to enjoy a well-earned retirement, closing the chapter on her grandfather’s family-run farm stand after more than a century of service to Montvale.
