Two New Jersey pizzerias were just named among the best pizza in the country.

Bucky’s Pizza in Chatham and Brooklyn Square (multiple locations) each made the cut in USA Today’s ranking

The New Jersey pizzas offer two distinct styles. Bucky’s Pizza focuses on sourdough, artisanal NY-style pies, while Brooklyn Square is known for upside-down Sicilian pizza.

Brooklyn Square – Multiple Locations

Saucy, cheesy, chewy—these are all words you could describe a Brooklyn Square pie with, and they’re the exact reason it earns a spot on this list. The small NJ-based chain dishes out pies inspired by many of the legendary Brooklyn pizzerias—namely L&B Spumoni Gardens—that build their squares in reverse. That means dough, then sliced mozzarella, then rich tomato sauce, and grated cheese to finish. If you ask me, upside-down is the only way to eat Sicilian pie. Brooklyn Square nails it.

Bucky’s Pizza – Chatham

Bucky’s started as a pop-up at breweries around the state, where Owner and head Pizzaiolo Dominic Calise turned 12-inch fermented sourdough pizzas out of a quick-fired oven. When he got a storefront in Chatham, he kept the sourdough and the artisanal toppings, but morphed into a NY-style pizzeria, churning out large pizzas, salads, meatballs, and more. They even offer a Detroit-style pie that’s among the best in the state. Bucky’s makes what is easily one of NJ’s finest pizzas, and their inclusion on the list is well-deserved.
