Who says magical moments can only be found in Disneyland or Walt Disney World? One Hazlet, New Jersey resident is using light technology on his home to put on an epic 20-minute Disney-themed projection show every weekend until Christmas.
How It Began
Ryan Basile of Hazlet, NJ has been helping his father decorate the family’s home ever since he was a kid, but the holidays were taken to a new level when he received a light controller for Christmas about five years ago. “Since I was a baby, [my father] always did crazy lights. He pushed me to do what I do now,” Basile told The Patch.
Now, the house puts on the show of the season!
What to Expect This Year
Specifically for the 2021 holiday season, Basile decided to bring the Disney magic to New Jersey with a mind-blowing 20-minute themed show, all set to the iconic “Happily Ever After” fireworks soundtrack, which used to be seen nightly at Magic Kingdom in Florida until it was recently replaced with a new show.
Families can spot familiar scenes from Disney and Pixar films including “Peter Pan,” “Tangled,” “Toy Story,” “The Little Mermaid” and more.
In order to make sure everything is perfect in time for the holiday season, Basile actually starts programming the light show around July. “That’s when I start getting excited about it,” he said. “My family makes fun of me because I keep an open tab on my phone and all year round I’m always—if I ever think of something I write it down because I don’t wanna forget.”
Know Before You Go
The Basile family is planning on running the Disney-themed light show every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night until Christmas, starting at 6 p.m. The address is 21 Meredith Way.
If you are not able to catch the 20-minute light show, you can still drive by the Basile house and check out an incredible light display, which will be on between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. every night. There will also be music playing until 10 p.m.
If you are not able to make it out to Hazlet this year, you can watch a video of the show below.
And next year, believe it or not, we may even see something bigger and better! “I want to expand and make it like a walk-through eventually,” Basile said. “I always try to push the limits. My dad, they all make fun of me, they’re like ‘we have no more room on the lawn.’ Because I just buy and buy and buy.”
