Looking to put the phone down for a night? Interested in picking up a book instead? We’ve got the perfect community event for you.
Reading Rhythms, the growing social movement changing the conversation on how people engage with literature, will host a reading party at The Pillars in Newark on Sunday, November 16. The event marks the first time the experience will come to Newark’s newly opened 15,000-square-foot retail and community hub, brought to the city by Audible.
Reading Rhythms has quickly built a national name for itself by transforming the act of reading into an intentional, shared experience. Founded by four friends in Brooklyn, the organization invites participants to read silently together for an hour—set to curated music—then discuss their books through guided prompts aimed at sparking conversation and connection. The concept merges mindfulness, art and community in an era dominated by digital distraction.

It’s the perfect opportunity to put the phone down and reconnect with literature alongside your community.
The two-hour event at The Pillars will follow Reading Rhythm’s signature structure.
Check-in begins at 6:45 p.m., followed by breathwork, two 30-minute reading blocks and interactive discussion periods. There is no set book for the event—instead, guests are encouraged to bring a book of their own choosing and an open mind. The program is designed to help attendees use literary themes as a firestarter for conversation. Reading Rhythms fosters thoughtful dialogue and helps aid reader confidence.
What Is The Pillars?
The Pillars is a 15,000-square-foot retail and community hub located at 33 Washington Street in Newark’s Arts and Education District.
Opened in October by Audible, the space combines retail, wellness and community outreach. The hub features listening booths, a central court and three retail spaces focused on home goods, clean beauty and wellness.
The Pillars steadfastly supports local entrepreneurs through Audible’s Business Attraction Program, offering funding, mentorship and networking opportunities for founders who have historically faced barriers to entry. With its focus on creativity, connection and community, The Pillars provides a fitting space for events like Reading Rhythms.

Organizers say the Newark event represents an opportunity to engage the city’s growing creative community while continuing the brand’s expansion beyond New York City. Past Reading Rhythms gatherings have drawn hundreds of participants—selling out in minutes.
Tickets for the Reading Rhythms Newark event are available now through s the group’s official website. Space is limited, and early booking is recommended.
