Severe thunderstorms warnings were laid out for southern New Jersey on Friday. The National Weather Service issued multiple warnings for wind, hail and hazardous marine conditions.
Warnings were posted shortly after 5 a.m. for parts of Ocean, Camden and Gloucester counties, including Toms River, Lindenwold and Haddonfield. A second warning was issued for Atlantic City, Vineland and Pleasantville. Both alerts warned of wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail as large as a quarter.
A special marine warning is also in effect for coastal waters from Sandy Hook to Little Egg Inlet through 7:15 a.m., with forecasters citing the potential for steep waves and hail.
As of this morning, storms knocked out power to more than 5,000 customers across the region, according to utility reports.
The worst of the weather is expected to move out by mid-morning, though a chance of additional rain remains into Saturday as a cold front continues to pass through the area.
Temperatures on Friday will reach the mid-60s.
