Studio L: New Location, Years of Experience

Sebastian Krawiec

If you’re looking for a dance studio in Hoboken, the new Studio L has a lot to offer. Hoboken is Studio L’s second location; the original is in Waldwick, NJ. The prestigious dance studio is owned by Kelley Larkin and her niece Danielle Larkin, who have both dedicated their lives to the performance and teaching of dance. Kelley Larkin grew up in her mother’s dance studio — Larkin Dance Studio in Minnesota where Danielle learned to dance as well — and eventually found herself in New York City, dancing professionally with the likes of Menudo, Patti LaBelle, Liza Minnelli, Gene Kelly, Willie Nelson and many more. Using her considerable experience in performance and choreography, Larkin began teaching, eventually accepting a position at the Robin Horneff’s Performing Arts Center. Over the years, she rose to become the director of the school, bought it, and renamed it Studio L.

Studio L is unique in that it works hard to keep its students stimulated by and actively involved in dance. Students receive instruction from famous guest teachers, have performed alongside artists such as Mariah Carey, and on famous stages such as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, generally gaining invaluable industry experience from a young age. The curriculum has a wide range of genres, including ballet, jazz/tap, hip hop and lyrical. There are also adult classes in jazz/tap, hip hop, zumba and aerial yoga. The Hoboken location is an opportunity to reach out to a whole new group of kids, who will not only learn to dance, but devote themselves to an art form, enjoying the progression and application of their skills.
