Residents in and around Clementon are calling for action after years of complaints about brown tap water.
The issue has allegedly persisted for a decade in some cases, with water discoloration, orange stains in sinks and toilets, and reliance on bottled water for residents.
More than a dozen families protested Thursday outside the Clementon Borough Municipal Building, urging local officials to address the problem. Complaints to the borough have reportedly produced little change.
Officials have offered rust remover to address the stains, but residents say the priority should be safe drinking water without additional charges.
Neighbors described daily struggles with stained showers and toilets and emphasized the need to advocate for those unable to speak up.
The borough issued a statement saying officials are aware of localized discoloration and are working with the Water Department to resolve it. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
Some residents rely on water from other towns for drinking and cooking, highlighting the ongoing concern over water safety.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection oversees water quality. Residents can file complaints if a supplier does not address safety concerns.
Residents plan to attend the next council meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m.
