Five Democratic members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation were targeted by bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving, though no explosives were found, authorities said.
Sen. Chris Murphy and Reps. Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, and Rosa DeLauro confirmed the threats in public statements. Police responded to each residence but found no evidence of bombs.
Murphy’s office described the threat as part of a coordinated effort targeting members of Congress and public figures. Hayes said her local police received an email alleging a pipe bomb had been placed in her mailbox, but authorities found nothing.
Himes, notified during a family gathering, thanked law enforcement and condemned political violence. “There is no place for it in this country,” he said.
The FBI and Capitol Police are investigating the incidents alongside state and local authorities. Connecticut State Police referred inquiries to local departments handling individual cases.
These threats come amid heightened concerns over political violence. Capitol Police reported over 8,000 threats to members of Congress last year, up from 7,500 the year before.
No suspects have been identified, and investigations are ongoing.
