A 41-year-old mother of five was fatally shot in Millville over the weekend. Another man was injured in the incident, according to reports from South Jersey authorities.

The shooting took place around 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a convenience store on East Greene Street in Millville, Cumberland County. Bystanders reported hearing at least four gunshots.

The victim, identified as Bonnie Hitchens, had reportedly just left her home to visit the store when she was shot. Her daughter, who requested anonymity, described her mother as undeserving of such violence, adding that she “wasn’t a bad person.”

A 31-year-old man who was with Hitchens at the time, identified by family members as her long-time boyfriend, also sustained injuries. He was struck at least three times but survived and was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, according to family. His sister, Shardinae Wise, expressed disbelief, saying her brother was struggling to come to terms with the incident.

Two of Hitchens’ daughters remembered their mother as a dedicated provider who “always brought a light” to those around her, often lifting others’ spirits.

Local authorities have not yet provided additional information regarding the investigation. They encourage anyone with information about the shooting to contact local police.
