Hackensack Meridian Health’s children’s hospitals were just ranked the best in New Jersey and the tenth-best in the Mid‑Atlantic by U.S. News & World Report. The accolade outlines the hospitals’ consistent performance across pediatric specialties, clinical outcomes and institutional resources.

The New Jersey ranking includes two Hackensack Meridian health facilities in the top spot. Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack and K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Each is nationally ranked in five pediatric specialties, such as urology, diabetes cardiology, oncology, neonatology and endocrinology.

The ranking uses methodology centered around data collected since 2006 to identify hospitals that excel in caring for children with serious, under-studied and rare conditions. Hospitals are evaluated across three primary categories, including outcomes (survival rates, infections, etc.), process (day-to-day care, efficiency, etc.) and structure (hospital resources, staffing levels, specialities, etc.).

While no New Jersey children’s hospitals made the national honor roll, NJ and Mid-Atlantic rankings provide families with context of the best hospitals in the region.

Hackensack Meridian is not only the top children’s hospital in New Jersey, but also one of the 10 best across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, D.C. and Virginia.

It is important for families with children to note that no single hospital is the best for every case or condition. Instead, the U.S. News data provides context for decision making. Parents and caregivers should assess all factors, such as insurance coverage, travel and specific specialty needs, including with rare conditions.

Hackensack Meridian Health’s children’s hospitals combine specialty expertise, research, teaching and measurable outcomes to maintain top ratings in pediatric care.

Along with Hackensack Meridian, The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital was ranked as the #2 children’s hospital in New Jersey.
