The Hoboken PATH Station will close for 25 days early on in 2025, here’s what we know:
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that the Hoboken PATH station will close for 25 days beginning early next year. The closure is a part of a $430 million infrastructure upgrade.
The station is set to close from 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 30 until 5 a.m. on Feb. 25 to complete critical repairs and improvements. This closure, part of the PATH Forward program, is intended to enhance track and station reliability and was chosen over a full year of weekend closures.
During the shutdown, PATH will offer several alternatives for commuters. Free shuttle buses will run from Hoboken to nearby PATH stations at Newport and Exchange Place. Additional PATH service will be provided from Newport and Exchange Place to 33rd Street and the World Trade Center, with frequent trains during peak hours. NJ Transit will increase bus service on the No. 126 line, connecting Hoboken to the Midtown Bus Terminal, and will add more service on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail during weekday rush hours.
Ferry service will also be cross-honored at Hoboken’s PATH/NJ Transit station and the 14th Street terminal. NY Waterway will expand its crosstown bus service to the West 39th Street terminal in Manhattan, and ferry services will run later, until 10 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends.
The upcoming work includes replacement of tracks and the Hoboken Interlocking, repairs to tunnels, and upgrades to public areas, including staircases between mezzanine and platform levels.
The Port Authority will hold informational sessions for the public, with in-person meetings on Nov. 12 at Hoboken Terminal and Nov. 13 in Jersey City, and a virtual session on Dec. 10.
Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton acknowledged the disruption, saying the full closure “allows us to fast-track extensive repair work” that would otherwise require years of intermittent closures.
