Mystery drones have been spotted over New Jersey and other East Coast states since late November, sparking public concern and a federal investigation. The sightings, including near military facilities and airports, have raised questions about the drones’ origins and intent. Some incidents, such as drones flying near Stewart International Airport and over Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, led to temporary shutdowns. Federal officials say many sightings are misidentified manned aircraft, but others remain unexplained.

The FBI began investigating the NJ drones earlier this month.

Trump Cashes In On Drone News in Presser

President-elect Donald Trump criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the situation, accusing it of withholding information. “Our military knows, and our president knows, and for some reason they want to keep people in suspense,” Trump said, suggesting he doubts foreign involvement but believes the government knows more than it’s revealing.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas assured the public that federal agencies are investigating and said there is no evidence of foreign or national security threats. He also called for expanded federal and local authority to combat unauthorized drone activity.

In response, Gov. Phil Murphy and other officials have urged Congress to strengthen drone regulations. Law enforcement has warned against public attempts to shoot down drones, citing safety risks and legal consequences. For now, the mystery remains unresolved, fueling speculation and growing calls for government transparency.
