A former middle school treasurer in Mercer County is accused of stealing thousands of dollars allocated for students and school programs.

East Windsor police say 47-year-old Allison Schneider stole roughly $25,000 from the Melvin H. Kreps Middle School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) while serving as the group’s treasurer.

The investigation began October 7, 2025, after officials reported missing funds from a bank account belonging to the PTO. Police discovered a $10,000 discrepancy between official bank records and the financial statements Schneider had submitted.

Following the investigation, detectives determined that Schneider had opened a separate bank account and diverted money from PTO fundraisers into it. The scheme spanned from 2021 to 2024. Authorities say the stolen funds were used for personal expenses.

Investigators concluded that approximately $25,000 was misappropriated.

Schneider turned herself in at the East Windsor Township Police Department on January 19. She was charged with third-degree theft and issued a complaint summons pending court proceedings.

Police said no other suspects were identified. The investigation is now closed.
