Starbucks to Close Over 100 Stores, Including Several in New Jersey

Starbucks has announced that more than 100 coffee shops across North America will be closing, a move that affects about 1 percent of its total footprint. Among those shutting down are five stores in New Jersey, with closures confirmed in Morristown, West New York, Manchester Township, and two in Fort Lee, one along Route 4 and another on Bergen Boulevard.

The company did not release a full list of locations, but the news sparked quick reports from local communities where closures have already been confirmed. Starbucks released a statement acknowledging the impact these stores have had on customers and employees alike:

“We know this isn’t just any store to customers. It’s their coffeehouse, a place woven into their daily rhythm, where memories were made, and where meaningful connections with our partners grew over the years. We’re deeply grateful for the communities that have been built.”

A National Reset

This latest announcement comes shortly after Starbucks revealed a broader restructuring plan that includes layoffs and strategic store closures nationwide. By the end of September, the company will have about 18,300 stores in North America, down 124 from the same time last year.

Two of the company’s Seattle Reserve Roastery locations are also on the chopping block. However, Starbucks has not confirmed whether additional stores in New Jersey beyond the five named will be part of the shutdown.

The brand currently operates around 348 stores across the state, making it one of Starbucks’ more significant regional markets. For New Jersey customers, the closures raise questions about which other neighborhoods might lose their go-to coffeehouse before the fiscal year wraps up.
