Trick-or-treaters across New Jersey can expect an unseasonably warm Halloween this year. Forecasts predict clear skies and temperatures soaring close to 80 degrees today, with some areas possibly breaking decades-old heat records. According to the National Weather Service, these temperatures challenge the high marks set in 1946, when Essex County recorded its warmest Halloween at 82 degrees. Other parts of the state mirrored the same temperatures with Atlantic County seeing numbers as high as 83.
This warm Halloween trend extends beyond New Jersey, with record highs from the same year seen in Philadelphia, where temperatures hit 82 degrees, and in Manhattan, which reached 81. The National Weather Service’s data indicates that these October 31 records have endured for nearly a century.
Typical Halloween temperatures in the area range between 60 and 62 degrees, so Thursday’s weather may end up about 20 degrees above the seasonal average—a rare treat for October. As the holiday approaches, keep an eye on the temperature forecasts, which show Halloween 2024 could be one of the warmest on record across the Garden State. Stay safe and enjoy the weather!
We are going to have our warmest Halloween since 2019 when we get to near 80° this afternoon. Trick-or-treat temps mainly in the 70s under a partly cloudy sky. Have fun tonight! pic.twitter.com/KcXJvxBiaz — Keith Monday (@kmondayWSOC9) October 31, 2024
