New Jersey faces a wild weekend of weather, with snow, heavy rain, and strong winds. Up to 5 inches of snow will begin falling Saturday afternoon before transitioning to rain overnight, creating slick roads, power outages, and tree damage.
Snow will hit Central and North Jersey first, while South Jersey sees a wintry mix. Forecasters warn that wet, heavy snow could bring down trees and cut power. By late afternoon and evening, rising temperatures will turn the snow to rain from south to north.
Winter weather advisories cover multiple counties. Hunterdon and Somerset counties will see 2 to 3 inches of snow with light ice from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Sussex and Morris counties will pick up 3 to 5 inches of snow and up to a tenth of an inch of ice through early Sunday. Warren County expects 3 to 4 inches of snow and light ice from noon Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday. Western Passaic County will get 2 to 5 inches of snow, followed by freezing rain and up to two-tenths of an inch of ice. Eastern Passaic and Bergen counties will see 2 to 4 inches of snow with light ice.
South Jersey will avoid the winter storm but can expect up to 2 inches of rain.
Sunday brings more chaos, with temperatures climbing into the 50s before plunging into a deep freeze. Winds could gust up to 60 mph Sunday night, likely bringing more downed trees and power outages.
This may only be round one—another winter storm could bring more snow Wednesday night into Thursday. Buckle up, Jersey.
