The Garden State isn’t just a tagline for our less-than-flattering license plate. Historically the breadbasket of the 13 colonies, New Jersey is still full of farms. So, we went county by county, looking for our favorite farmers markets. Feel free to skip to your neck of the woods, or try someplace new. Here are the best farmers markets in NJ.

Bergen County

Ramsey Farmers Market

Ramsey Main Street Train Station | Main Street & Erie Plaza, Ramsey, NJ

With an impressive 70 vendors, the Ramsey Farmers Market is a treat for those close to the state border. This market runs every Sunday year round, rain, snow, or shine, but for the May-November season, they go from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. View all vendors here, and sign up for their newsletter for updates.

Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce Farmers Market

Ridgewood Train Station West Side | 6 Garber Square, Ridgewood, NJ

This season, right next to Ridgewood’s quaint town center, you can support sustainably-sourced, organic produce and plants at the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce Farmers Market. Be sure to stop by before October 29—the market will be there every Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

River Vale Farmers Market

River Vale Town Hall | 406 Rivervale Road, River Vale, NJ

Is 8 a.m. a little early for you? Not a problem at the River Vale Farmers Market, running every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. through October. Each week has a theme, an activity, live music, and a food truck. Click here to see this week’s lineup.

Columbus Farmers Market

2919 Route 206, Columbus, NJ

This one’s a double whammy. At Columbus, there’s both a produce market and an Amish market. Produce Row is open Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., sourced by Columbus Produce and Cannuli’s Produce. Cannuli’s also serves Italian market goods. The Amish Market operates at varying hours from Thursday through Saturday, selling Amish farm-sourced goods hailing from Lancaster County, PA. Click here for the Amish Market’s hours and vendors.

Bonus: Hit up Kate & Al’s, located directly in the market, for a slice of their famous square pizza.

Camden County

Haddonfield Farmers Market

2 Kings Court, Haddonfield, NJ

Every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Haddonfield Farmers Market brings in over 30 vendors and an adventure, according to their brief about section at the bottom of each page. Vendors are listed here, and the website even features recipes like this Blueberry Crumb Cake that help as shopping guides.

Essex County

Nutley Farmers Market

Municipal Parking Lot 7 | 507 Franklin Avenue, Nutley, NJ

Essex County’s only Sunday market, the Nutley Farmers Market carries unique offerings. This year, the market has begun a featured vendor program to shout out local businesses. They also host live music, local organizations, and even a Market Walk & Talk for patrons to go on a quick hike before shopping. The market runs every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through October. NDD Downtown Market

Prudential Plaza | 80 Park Place, Newark, NJ

On Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Newark Downtown District (NDD) Downtown Market offers local produce, meals, accessories, and self care products and services. In addition to an extensive variety of vendors, their main farm source is the Urban Agriculture Cooperative, which, in collaboration with RWJBarnabas Health, puts Newark-based and NJ-based farmers first, emphasizing urban, women-owned, and BIPOC-owned farming operations. South Orange Downtown Farmers Market

Sloan Street Parking Lot | 12 Sloan Street, South Orange, NJ

Another forgivingly late-in-the-day market, the South Orange Downtown Farmers Market runs on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine, until November 1. The market also hosts pop-up events with the South Orange Public Library and the Mend Hunger Relief Network. View current and past vendors here.

Hudson County

Hoboken Farmers Market

Garden Street between 4th and 5th Streets, Hoboken, NJ

One of three farmers markets in Hoboken, this one runs through Midtown Hoboken, along the aptly-selected Garden Street. Swing by on a Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. until mid-November for produce, baked goods, and specialty juices.

Historic Downtown Jersey City Farmers Market

Grove Street PATH Plaza | Newark Avenue & Grove Street, Jersey City, NJ

Located in the heart of Downtown Jersey City, the Historic Downtown Jersey City Farmers Market (phew, that’s a mouthful) has a small biweekly setup outside the Grove Street PATH Station every Monday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. until December 21. This late market is perfect for those who want to do a little local shopping after work. Grab a killer sourdough bun from Hoboken Farms and tell me the 10-minute PATH ride from the city wasn’t worth it.

Farms in the Heights

Riverview Park | 498 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City, NJ

Yet another Jersey City farmers market, Farms in the Heights is a Sunday market that runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This Sunday, they will be hosting the Fall Harvest Festival, including the regular market, plus the Kids Apple Dessert Baking Contest, live music, a raffle, a temporary tattoo station, and more. Hunterdon County

Hunterdon Land Trust Farmers Market

The Dvoor Farm | 111 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ

Mercer County

Trenton Farmers Market

960 Spruce Street, Lawrence Township, NJ

With a long history spanning over eighty years, the Trenton Farmers Market continues to have solid attendance from vendors and patrons alike. Princeton Junction Train Station | 2 Wallace Circle, Princeton Junction, NJ

Highland Park Farmers Market

212 Raritan Avenue, Highland Park, NJ

A unique Friday market, the Highland Park Farmers Market runs weekly from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. in November and December) and accepts a variety of community-organized and government-issued payment forms, including but not limited to: Market Bucks, HP Bucks, EBT/SNAP, and HPFM Community Food Pantry Vouchers. Catch DowntownFreehold.com’s Friday market every week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for freshly picked bouquets and produce, right in the center of town!

Highlands 29th Annual Farmers Market

Huddy Park | Bay Avenue & Waterwitch Avenue, Highlands, NJ

Pick up ravioli, cheese, and meat pies at this year’s annual Highlands Farmers Market, running every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. until November 18. The market will even be bringing in goods from Middlesex and Mercer Counties.

The Galleria Red Bank Farmers Market

Bridge Avenue & West Front Street, Red Bank, NJ

The Galleria Red Bank will be hosting about 40 vendors and about 1000 patrons every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through mid-November. The market accepts WIC (Women, Infants and Children, and Senior Citizens) coupons from the Senior Center on Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank.

Riverdale Farmers Market

Glenburn | 211 Hamburg Turnpike, Riverdale, NJ

This farmers market in northern Morris County is celebrating its 15th season on the historic grounds of the preserved Glenburn Estate with “Jersey Fresh” produce and treats by Stony Hill Farms, Alicelladora’s Oven, and more. Swing by any Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. through October!

Morris Plains Farmers Market

Brick Farmers Market

Windward Beach Park | 265 Princeton Avenue, Brick, NJ

Almost 60 vendors will be at Brick’s Windward Beach Park this Saturday, September 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., including Shore Shake, Maha Premium Granola, Icarus Brewing Company, and more. Wayne’s Saturday market is uniquely community-oriented. Beyond the regular farmers market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., they accept EBT/SNAP, host plastic-free vendors, and help with community food distribution. West Milford Farmers Market

West Milford Presbyterian Church | 1452 Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ

A true community force, one of the West Milford Farmers Market’s core principles is that West Milford vendors are prioritized for available slots. Every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. through October 12, the market provides the community with fresh food, local music, and access to non-profit, non-partisan community groups. Bedminster Farmers Market

Farmers Market at the Shoppes at Lafayette

The Shoppes at Lafayette | 75 NJ-15, Lafayette, NJ

On the historic grounds of Olde Lafayette Village, the Shoppes at Lafayette is hosting the Sunday farmers market, rain or shine. The market, which also features arts and crafts vendors, will be running every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m until November 5.

Sparta Farmers Market

Sparta Health & Wellness Center | 89 Sparta Avenue, Sparta, NJ

Want a little farmers-market-ception? Come to the Sparta Farmers Market’s monthly seasonal festivals with 10-15 extra vendors! The regular market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until December 23, and the next seasonal festival is the Harvest Market Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 23.

Union County

Roselle Park Farmers Market

Michael J. Mauri Park | Chestnut Street & E Grant Avenue, Roselle Park, NJ

Every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. through October, the decades-long history of the Roselle Park Farmers Market continues, serving up local produce from Valley View Farms and Miladinov Farm. Vendors also include specialty treats from United Snacks of America and floral arrangements from Lidios Flowers, which doubles as a cafe on W Westfield Avenue.

Summit Farmers Market

Considered one of the best farmers markets in the state according to their website, the Summit Farmers Market is a Sunday market running from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until November 19 then from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. December 3, 10, and 17. Washington Borough Farmers Market

44 E Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ

Washington’s Saturday market is closing up for the season at the end of this month, but be sure to check their weekly themes—these last few can’t be skipped. To conclude the season, the market is hosting the Summer Music Series all September.
