New Jersey is bracing for a fast-moving storm that will bring heavy rain and strong, potentially damaging winds late Thursday into Friday.

Rain is expected to spread across New Jersey Thursday evening as a strong weather system moves in from the west. The heaviest rainfall is likely to come overnight, with widespread rainfall totals between 1 and 1.5 inches. While the storm should move through the region quickly, flash flooding is possible, especially Friday morning. Commuters should keep a close eye on the weather.

Wind will be the primary concern. Strong wind gusts will steadily increase overnight and peak Friday morning, reaching 30 to 45 mph across much of New Jersey. In coastal areas, isolated gusts near 50 mph are possible.

A thunderstorm could develop near the Jersey Shore early Friday.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 40s and low 50s on Thursday ahead of the storm. Colder air will move in behind it. Temperatures will drop Friday afternoon, ending the day in the upper 30s to low 40s.
