We might get our first NJ snow of the season next week.
Tuesday could see snowfall, though details are still changing. According to the National Weather Service, a coastal system will move in next week and bring snow, a mix or plain rain depending on the area.
As of right now, the Jersey Shore looks a bit too warm for sustained snowfall. Expect flakes early, followed by rain. Inland areas start colder and could sustain snow for longer periods before mixing. The greatest chance for actual accumulation sits northwest of I-95 and near the I-78 corridor. However, the storm’s path is still yet to be determined, so it could miss the area altogether.
Two outcomes are on the table. A system hugging the coast means warmer air and mostly rain. A track offshore means colder air and better odds for snow. Forecast models disagree; therefore, there’s no snowfall map yet.
Prior to the official arrival of the storm, New Jersey will experience a sharp blast of cold. Black Friday brought strong winds and temperatures stuck in the 30s and low 40s, with gusts nearing 40 mph, making it feel even colder than it is. Winds ease on Saturday, but temperatures stay below normal with lows falling into the 20s and 30s.
A warm front pushes in on Sunday with light rainfall. However, the relative warmth will not last—a cold front Sunday night brings falling temperatures for Monday.
For now, Tuesday’s storm stays classified as low impact. Northwestern New Jersey, especially Sussex County, has the best shot at steady snow thanks to higher elevation and colder temperatures. Most of the state sees a rain-snow mix with little or no accumulation. Highs reach the upper 30s and fall near freezing at night.
Even after the storm moves out, high pressure settles in for Wednesday and Thursday, keeping temperatures below normal through the end of next week.
