The 39th MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will be held in Newark at New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Sunday, August 28th, 2022.

“Our 2019 show in Newark was undoubtedly one of our biggest and most successful shows yet and we’re excited to bring back the incredible fan energy for one of music’s most anticipated and iconic nights.” said Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events, Paramount and Chief Content Officer, Music, Paramount+.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. ET/PT LIVE airing from MTV’s global footprint of linear and digital platforms in over 170 countries with over 30 languages available. The VMAs will simulcast on The CW Network for the third consecutive year. The reach of this digital platform makes the show available to an expanded broadcast audience, in addition to BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand and VH1.

The 2022 Nominees

MTV just recently unveiled the highly-anticipated nominations for the 2022 VMAs. These artists have culturally impacted the music industry over the past year and have worked toward stimulating global conversations. Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X lead this year’s nominations with seven each, followed closely by Doja Cat and Harry Styles with six each, and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd with five.

Jack Harlow and Lil Nas X’s collaboration on “INDUSTRY BABY” certainly contributes to their impressive seven nominations. The momentum started after the pair performed live on the 2021 VMAs stage alongside Kendrick Lamar, who has been nominated for the first time since 2018.
