The FBI has begun investigating reports of unusual drone activity in central New Jersey. Federal authorities are now seeking public assistance in the effort.

Since November 18, witnesses have observed clusters of drones—described as larger than those typically used recreationally—and possibly a fixed-wing aircraft, flying at night near the Raritan River. The sightings have drawn attention due to their proximity to sensitive locations, including Picatinny Arsenal, a military research facility, and former President Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has since imposed drone flight restrictions in the area. The FBI, collaborating with local law enforcement and state agencies, emphasized there is no evidence to suggest a threat to public safety.

Authorities are encouraging residents to provide any photos, videos, or information about the flights. The Morris and Somerset County Prosecutors’ Offices issued a joint statement confirming their awareness of the incidents and commitment to ongoing monitoring.

Sightings have been reported across several counties, including Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren, prompting a coordinated response involving local police departments, sheriff’s offices, and federal agencies.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the first sightings occurred on November 18, when law enforcement officers observed the drones. The FAA initially reported no verified evidence of drone activity but shared relevant information with federal security agencies as a precaution.

Residents remain concerned, with online footage fueling speculation about the source of the flights. Authorities, however, reiterated there is no known danger while the investigation continues.
