Increase Website Traffic By 100% This Weekend
Whether you are a local business or a huge multi-national corporation, It’s no secret showing up at the top of a search engine results page (SERP) will help drive new leads to your business. Anytime a potential new customer types a ‘keyword’ into the search bar on Google or another search engine, a list of search results magically appear. How the listings appear, however, is not all magic. There are a few tricks that will undoubtedly help your business appear at the top of the list. These tricks are most commonly known as Search Engine Optimization or SEO. SEO is using what we know about search engines to help your business show up when and where your customers are looking for you online.
What is a keyword, you ask? Quoted from Google, “A keyword is any word or short phrase that describes a website topic or page. The more a keyword is used by searchers and websites the more attraction power it has. If you want your website to attract searchers, you need to use strong keywords in your website titles and website text. These brief words should realistically identify and describe your site.”
Being #1 is awesome in general, but why does this matter when a potential customer is searching keywords related to your business (i.e., Hoboken dry cleaning, Jersey City dog walker, Edgewater baby stuff)? The answer is simple and something you should care about if you are interested in growing your business: almost 80% of ‘shoppers’ will click one of the first 3 search engine results.
There are many studies on the internet that analyze users clicking action, but a recent one from Cornell University showed that 56% of users click on the first result, 13% on the second, and then the numbers slide down from there. Being #1 is important. Capturing 56% of clicks means 56% more opportunity to generate inbound leads, 56% more clicks than your competitors, and 56% greater probability of converting a ‘browser’ to a ‘buyer.’
If you still have doubts that optimizing your keywords is important, select a keyword that you ‘think’ is relevant to your business. If you sell dog-walking services in Hoboken, your keyword might be ‘dog walking services hoboken.’ Or maybe it’s “dog walkers hudson county.” While ‘maybe’ you might hit the nail on the head, it’s a lot more effective if you know for sure what your potential buyers are ‘actually’ searching and then begin using those keywords in your content on your website and social media. Reason being, while you are saying “yes, that’s maybe what my potential clients are searching,” your competition is saying, “I’m too busy handling inbound leads from the interwebs because I checked out what my keywords actually are and then starting using them and BOOM now I’m too busy hiring new people to handle all the inbound traffic I’m receiving.”
Luckily, there is only one surefire way to find out what your potential new customers are searching for online, and it’s using a Keyword Finder. Find out which keywords ‘search engine searchers are actually searching’ (say that 5x fast), and you’ve discovered half of the puzzle to optimizing search results. My favorite keyword finder tool, and the most trusted and accurate one out there, is Google’s Keyword Planner.
