An investigation is underway following a fatal incident that occurred Thursday night in Long Branch, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Footage shared online captured a heavy police response in the Pier Village area, with sirens echoing through the night and bystanders claiming to have heard gunshots. One video appeared to show a scuffle breaking out on the beach, while another depicted first responders tending to someone on the sand.

Law enforcement has released few details so far, including when and exactly where the death took place. The Long Branch Police Department is assisting in the investigation, but officials have not commented further.

As of Friday morning, part of the boardwalk remains taped off as authorities continue to examine the scene.
