A winter storm could bring snow to New Jersey this weekend. Early forecasts show 2 to 6 inches across much of the state.
Nothing is absolute. Forecasters are stressing that conditions could still change. At this moment, it looks like snow will fall Sunday into Monday morning—potentialy disrupting the morning commute for thousands.
The National Weather Service said the probability of snow has increased: 60-80% chance of at least two inches, and a 25-45% chance of six inches or more in parts of New Jersey.
NJ Storm Points to Sunday Night Trouble
Right now, forecasters look at Sunday evening into Monday morning as the most impactful period.
Snow could begin as early as Sunday afternoon, becoming heavier overnight and tapering off into Monday. If heavier snow develops, roads could quickly become snow-covered and dangerous.
Even lower totals could still cause problems because of the timing of snowfall.
Meteorologists say the storm’s exact track will determine how much snow falls. A shift closer to the coast would increase totals, while a shift offshore would reduce accumulation.
Wind, Flooding, And Power Outages Also Possible
Snow isn’t the only concern. Forecasters warn the storm could bring any of the following:
- 40-50 mph wind gusts
- Coastal flooding along the Jersey Shore
- Reduced visibility on roads
- Possible power outages
Colder air arriving behind the storm will also cause temperatures to drop sharply—presenting freezing potential.
Most forecast models now show at least some snow across most of the state, with areas in South Jersey expected to be hit with the highest totals.
Even a moderate snowfall could cause slippery roads, commuter traffic, flight delays, and school closures or delayed openings.
Officials are urging residents to monitor forecasts closely, staying up to date on possible changes as the weekend progresses.
Just as many think winter is winding down, New Jersey is bracing for its most impactful snowfall in weeks.
