Six Flags Great Adventure is kicking off its 2026 season this weekend with a wave of changes. From a reimagined Boardwalk and new dining concepts to behind-the-scenes progress on its next major roller coaster.
After Kingda Ka closed last November for cautionary reasons and complications that arose with wooden coaster El Toro in 2022, Great Adventure was in need of a refresh.
Much-Anticipated Boardwalk Comes to Great Adventure
“Set within the reimagined Boardwalk, the coaster will bring a fresh mix of family thrills and classic seaside energy — blending the timeless charm of the New Jersey shoreline with dynamic new experiences for guests of all ages,” according to the Six Flags official blog.
The boardwalk will open later in the spring. Updated rides including a new roller coaster, boardwalk-themed foods, drinks, games and more will come with it.
Six Flags Gets Another New Coaster
An additional attraction, the park’s 15th roller coaster, is still under construction and will open sometime in 2027. The ground work has transformed into the skyline with vertical assembly, an important milestone in the ride’s completion.
Other additions to the park include newly improved track sections on El Toro, expanded Wi‑Fi and new menu selections at certain dining areas.
“These updates build on Great Adventure’s ongoing commitment to improving guest comfort, ride quality, and in‑park amenities,” Great Adventure stated.
New Dining, Park Schedule and More
Dining improvements will include Best of the West turning into Best of the West: Smokehouse, with house-smoked meats and other barbecue staples. Main Street Pub has now earned a fast walk-up format for quicker service, while Executive Chef Jeremy Hacker will serve as the new lead to focus on “scratch-made ingredients and creative menus.”
Six Flags Great Adventure is open weekends only until Memorial Day—with the exception of Spring Break from April 4-12. The Wild Safari will also open during Memorial Day weekend while Hurricane Harbor water park will open slightly later in the season on Saturday, June 6.
Six Flags Great Adventure: 2026 Season
Opening Day comes early for some park goers. Passholders and Members are able to attend the Exclusive Season Passholder Preview Night on Friday, March 27, with early access to certain attractions.
