New Jersey TD Bank customers might need to find a new bank.
TD Bank is set to close eight of its New Jersey branches by early next year as part of a larger downsizing effort across 13 states and Washington, D.C aimed at shuttering at least 51 locations nationwide. TD is hardly the only major bank in the midst of a downsize—the move follows a national trend among major banks to scale back physical operations and focus on digital services.
The closures are expected to take place by late January 2026. Branches in Atco, Florham Park, Haledon, Jamesburg, Manahawkin, Point Pleasant, Ramsey and Tinton Falls will shut their doors for good.
Once the downsize is complete, TD’s New Jersey network will shrink to 180 locations.
TD Bank recently relocated its U.S. headquarters from Cherry Hill to Mount Laurel. The bank plans to tighten its footprint to reduce costs, shifting investment toward tech and customer experience. The new strategy emphasizes digital acquisition, mobile engagement and self-service tools as more customers conduct routine banking online.
Across North America, TD operates more than 2,100 retail branches, including roughly 1,100 in the United States, making the company one of the ten largest banks on the continent. The upcoming cuts are part of a broader restructuring program expected to save hundreds of millions in annual operating costs.
This marks TD’s second round of closures in New Jersey this year. In March, five additional branches were shut down as part of the same efficiency drive. The bank has not disclosed how many employees will be affected by the next round of closures.
While TD maintains a significant retail presence, its leadership has made clear that future growth will rely more on technology rather than in-person operations. The bank is betting that customers will adapt to a model built on digital access, limited physical branches and expanded ATM coverage.
