The 2022 Nominees
MTV just recently unveiled the highly-anticipated nominations for the 2022 VMAs. These artists have culturally impacted the music industry over the past year and have worked toward stimulating global conversations. Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X lead this year’s nominations with seven each, followed closely by Doja Cat and Harry Styles with six each, and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd with five.
Jack Harlow and Lil Nas X’s collaboration on “INDUSTRY BABY” certainly contributes to their impressive seven nominations. The momentum started after the pair performed live on the 2021 VMAs stage alongside Kendrick Lamar, who has been nominated for the first time since 2018.
The most awarded artist in MTV history with a whopping 20 wins and 69 nominations is Madonna. She has become the only artist to be nominated in each of the VMAs five decades (1980s-2020s) through her nomination for “Madame X”.
This year also welcomes 26 first-time nominees, including Baby Keem (4), MTV PUSH artist GAYLE (2), Kacey Musgraves (2) and Måneskin (2), all receiving multiple nods. Other first-time nominees include Anitta, Becky G, Dove Cameron, Karol G, ITZY, JID, Muni Long, Tems, Wet Leg and more.
