Third State Podcast Episode 1: Chef Leia Gaccione

Third State Podcast Episode 1: Chef Leia Gaccione

Peter Candia

If you haven’t heard, we dropped a podcast.

Third State Podcast is a show about all things New Jersey, hosted by Mikayla Noel and powered by us here at New Jersey Digest. As the show develops, we’re looking to speak to individuals across the state that help shape what New Jersey means. Chefs, artists, musicians, business professionals—you name it, and they’ll have a home on our show.

In our first official episode of Third State Podcast, Mikayla and I spoke to a longtime friend of mine, Chef Leia Gaccione. I had the pleasure of first meeting Chef Gaccione nearly six years ago when I wrote about her beloved Morristown institution, South + Pine. It was one of the earliest articles I wrote, and the first ever article that was pitched, brainstormed and written entirely by me. Since, Chef Gaccione has kept her knife to the board dishing out some of the best food in Morristown.

In Episode 1, Gaccione discusses all things restaurant biz, how she decided on culinary school, her earliest jobs, annoying Yelp reviews, farm-to-table cooking and how she was able to rise up the ranks of a traditionally male-dominated industry.

If you stick around to the end, you might catch wind of a new project that Chef Gaccione has in the works. New restaurant? You’ll just have to tune in and find out for yourself.
