A shooting outside a private event venue in Verona left four people injured late Saturday.

Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at Municipal Lot 1 near Park Place around 11 p.m. Officers arrived to find a large crowd leaving Palmetto Venues, where a private party was held.

According to witnesses, an altercation between several guests escalated into a feud, and an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot. Police recovered upwards of 36 shell casings at the scene.

Two men with gunshot wounds were treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Newark. A man and a woman who were also shot arrived at hospitals on their own before police arrived, authorities said.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute among attendees of the event. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation remains active.
