Staff

North Jersey faces unseasonably warm weather this week, with highs nearing 80 degrees on some days, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Around Bergen County, temperatures will climb into the 70s starting Saturday and may stay that way through Thursday. Monday’s forecast shows a high of 79 degrees, followed by 78 degrees on Tuesday.

Saturday’s temperature in North Jersey especially is expected to hit 73, well above the usual 66 for this time of year. Typically, the high for October 21 in the area is 65 degrees. North Bergen could see highs in the upper 70s through Thursday, nearing record levels for late October, where previous highs have touched the low 80s.

The week will stay dry and clear, with no rain expected in Teterboro, per NWS. More seasonal temperatures will return by Thursday, with a high of 65 degrees, followed by 57 on Friday.

North Jersey has had a dry October, raising concerns about worsening drought. Without rain in the coming weeks, drought conditions could intensify. Droughts typically peak in summer due to heat, but a lack of rain now could increase the risk of fires.
