Everything You Need to Know About Uranus Retrograde 2022

by Kaitlyn De Leonardis
what does uranus in retrograde mean?

Uranus loves to cause commotion among the stars and in our lives. For approximately five months out of the year this radical planet goes retrograde, and we get a chance to calm our inner chaos. This period of time is best used for personal progress because when outer planets like Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are in retrograde, their larger-than-life energies are somewhat suppressed. But this isn’t your typical retrograde because this year, Uranus will remain quite active during its backward trek.

Uranus really is “doing the most” right now, given the planet’s recent conjunction with Mars and the North Node of destiny, as well as its strong influence during the Aquarius full moon in the first half of August. It looks like Uranus is indeed trying to wake up and shake up, and its 2022 retrograde is a continuation of this influence.

When will Uranus be in Retrograde in 2022?

Uranus stations retrograde on August 24 and will go direct on January 22, 2023. During this journey, the planet will move from 18° to 14° of steady Taurus. This 4-degree span puts the planet in the middle of the cosmic action for the remainder of the year.

Major Themes of Uranus Retrograde 2022

Known as “the great awakener,” the planet’s purpose is to do just that. Uranus entered Taurus back in 2018, and since then the planet has been revolutionizing the way we approach money, personal possessions, appearances and our worth within the sphere of society. Point blank, Uranus is shifting our values and this current retrograde points to finding new ways to implement or integrate these changes.

With Uranus currently moving through the second decan of Taurus (a 10-degree subset within the sign) there is a strong focus on how we go about living our daily lives. This Virgo/Mercury ruled decan means we’ll be looking for practical ways to deal with an impractical world. While we can’t control what happens around us, we do control our own minds and the way we choose to go about our routines. Uranus retrograde is the perfect time to experiment with a new schedule or make some updates to regular habits. There is a focus on well-being and over-aching themes of health and work. It’s about making sure our daily lives align with our values.

This is the last retrograde to fully occur in the second decan, as Uranus will only briefly dip back into it during its 2023 backward trek. This is our chance to revolutionize our day-to-day and adopt new mindsets that will move us forward. We are preparing for the total reconstruction that will come when Uranus moves through Taurus’ final and third decan, ruled by Saturn/Capricorn.

Saturn Square Uranus: Embrace Your Inner Rebel

Retrogrades tend to bring up the past. From September 15 all the way through October 23, Saturn and Uranus find themselves in an exact square. This is a 90° angle that usually brings on an obstacle or challenge— something that must be overcome. But we’ve been here before. For most of 2021, Saturn and Uranus found themselves in this aspect. We may feel like we’re being tested; Saturn, the task-master, likes to see if we’ve learned anything since the last time these two battled it out.

The Aquarius influence will be strong during these dates, as both Saturn and Uranus are considered rulers of this sign. Saturn, the traditional ruler, is currently in Aquarius and also retrograde— but will break this square by stationing direct on October 23. So, Saturn will move forward while Uranus will continue to move backward. Both Taurus and Aquarius are fixed signs, so tension, disruptions and resistance are likely. On a grand level, the external environment may seem volatile; as global affairs escalate and civil unrest continues. Natural disasters are also likely under this aspect. Aquarius, aka the waterbearer, provides for all, and if there is one sign that stands for or represents world peace, it’s this one. It’s also important to note that this will be the final square between them before Saturn moves into Pisces in the spring of 2023. Hopefully, we’ll see humanity come together in the midst of chaos, say no to war and yes to peace.

On a personal level this alignment can be used to face our own limitations and we can use the innovation of Uranus to break or work around them. Yes, work is always involved when Saturn is present. This is about dismantling the structure and restrictions of “the norm” for the sake of our own advancement. It is time to embrace our inner rebel. There is always a leveling-up when it comes to Uranus. With the Aquarius influence, this retrograde is about reinventing ourselves, finding peace and power within our own uniqueness. As Pluto prepares for its ingress into Aquarius next year, it’s about recognizing that we as individuals have a part to play in the evolution of humanity.

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus will Guest Star Uranus

Uranus and eclipse energy go hand in hand. They’re both unpredictable and life-alerting. Not all eclipses are felt, but this one, in particular, has some extreme elements surrounding it. The full moon lunar eclipse in Taurus on November 8 definitely has a whole lot going on. First and foremost, the Moon will be exactly conjunct with Uranus, with the North Node in close by. While the Sun opposes them from Scorpio, it will be conjunct with the South Node, Mercury and Venus. The South Node points to where we need to let go and both Mercury and Venus are the dispositors (or rulers/influencers) of the North Node, Moon and Uranus in Taurus. This puts a strong emphasis on releasing outdated mindsets and values. It will no longer be a choice. Instead, it is imperative for our personal and collective development. We cannot stay stuck in our old mindsets and values— release and you shall receive. When we do let go we make space for new and innovative ways to move forward.

Uranus is called the great awakener because it has a role to play in the development of our own consciousness. During this eclipse, Uranus will help open our eyes and lead us in the right direction— on the path we are intended to take, as fate always has a seat at the table when it comes to eclipses.

Uranus Retrograde 2022 Takeaway

Up until January 22, 2023, we will be revolutionizing our personal lives and it’s important not to fall prey to the mayhem we witness in this world. When we raise our own vibrations, we raise the vibration of the world. This retrograde will show us what no longer serves in our personal lives, as we evolve into new versions of ourselves. If there is one thing Uranus won’t stand for, it’s stagnation.
