How To Make A Small Bathroom More Functional

by Staff

Our bathrooms are a place for us to relax and unwind. No matter what size bathroom you have, you deserve to have a space that feels luxurious and spa-like. If you don’t have a lot of space to work with, you can still create a room filled with tranquillity for you to enjoy.  There are a few things that you can do to maximize your space, such as installing floating or tall shelves, adding mirrors, and making sure the room is light and airy. Here are a few tips on how to make a small bathroom more functional.

Vertical towel rails

Towel rails and column radiators are an integral part of any bathroom, no one likes getting out of a warm shower or bath to a freezing cold room! Not only do they help to heat the room, but they also dry it out when we’ve showered, reducing the risk of dampness, and helping to keep our towels dry and fluffy. If you have a small space, you might be struggling to fit a radiator in, however, options such as a vertical towel rail come in all lengths and widths, so there is sure to be something to fit your needs. Mounting them on the wall also helps to create more floor space.

Mirrors

Mirrors are a great way of creating the illusion of a bigger space. If your bathroom is on the smaller side, installing a large mirror can help to bounce more natural light around the room and give the appearance of a higher ceiling. Adding a large mirror that almost covers the whole of one wall in a bathroom, not only creates the illusion of more space but is also helpful if you are using it at the same time as someone else. It allows two people to use it simultaneously, so you’re not crowded around that one small mirror over the sink every morning!

Wet rooms

Wet rooms and walk-in showers are often associated with luxury and are commonly found in modern hotels. But not anymore. Wet rooms are slowly making their way into the home. They are a great way to save space as they take away the need for a bath. They are minimalistic and can fit into a corner with no problem. They will modernize the look of your bathroom with ease and leave your bathroom feeling plush.

Tall or mounted shelves

If you’re working with a smaller bathroom, you may not have a lot of floor space. Choosing shelves and storage that can be mounted on the wall will allow you more room. If you don’t want to take up wall space, try opting for tall, free-standing shelves that can slot into the space you have available.

Lighting

Lighting is essential when it comes to making your smaller bathroom look and feel bigger. Everything in your bathroom is elevated with the lighting that you choose. You could choose to utilize your natural light if you have a large window, or you could add a skylight. Choosing a chandelier-style light fitting can make your ceiling seem higher, creating the illusion of more space.

Trying some of these tips can help you to maximize your bathroom space, no matter the size, and will help you to create a room filled with serenity when you need it most.
