Don’t Sit Home- Community Influencer With a Heart for Charity

Hoboken is a small city, a mile square if we’re being technical. In such a dense population it takes a special kind of person to truly be a community influencer. Many of you who “don’t sit home”, may very well know Amanda Morrison. You most likely know her for her popular social channel Don’t Sit Home, a social media guide of what’s going on around Hoboken, Jersey city and NYC. What you probably don’t know about Amanda, is her heart for charity in the community of Hudson County. We had some one on one time with this Hoboken socialite, as she shared about a charity work within the community, and an exciting event she is hosting this weekend (ps you’re invited!).
When Amanda isn’t sipping coffee at bwe Kafe, enjoying some delicious eats at Fiorie’s or Grimaldi’s, rocking out at Onieals or Maxwell’s to name a few places, she’s doing something good for her soul and the community of Hoboken through charity work. “I have loved that I can volunteer my personal time, and use Don’t Sit Home to help a great effort”, says Amanda. Last year she volunteered and hosted the 2015 Halloween day HoBooken 5k fundraiser for the Hoboken Shelter, another great charity in town”. The race raised thousands of dollars for a good cause, and had over 1,800 runners in costume running along the Hoboken waterfront.
2016 will mark Amanda’s third year volunteering with Hoboken Volunteers. Every year the charity sponsors a Chili Cook-Off and Home brewing Contest fundraiser that Amanda MC’s and helps sponsor. This year’s event is this Saturday, February 20, 2016, 2:00pm – 6:00pm.
All of the proceeds will be going to True Mentors. Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Tony Boloney’s owner Mike Hauke, and House of Que pitmaster Mike Rodriguez will be judging this year’s chili contest, and one of the sponsors, 902 Brewing, will manage judging the homebrew contests’s. Many businesses also donate towards the prizes, making the Chili Cook-Off a true community event. But that’s not all. Following the Cook-off there will also be a Don’t Sit Home after party this year sponsored by Deep Eddy Vodka at House of Que in Hoboken 6:00pm – 9:00pm. The night includes a raffle, drink specials, and more to help raise even more money for a good cause. Hoboken Volunteers also helps provide support to various charities around town all year long, so they are great to be involved with for a variety of volunteer opportunities.
