A top-rated NJ restaurant has unveiled plans for a taco truck—yes, you heard that right—coming early this summer.

Gioia Mia opened in 2023 to instant critical acclaim for their chef-driven menu, which is defined by seasonal produce and global flavors. Owners Mary Cumella and Chef Logan Ramirez have  put together restaurant experience that takes diners through the likes of gelee-topped chicken liver mousse, handmade semolina cavatelli with fatty sausage, blood orange-soaked scallop tiradito and Heritage pork chops with zingy cabbage and mustard fondue.

And while Ramirez has proven his culinary poise and ability to hang with the big dogs of NJ dining, he’s not closed off to a more relaxed, on-the-go dining experience either. That’s where the duo’s newest concept, a taco truck by the name of Lulu’s Truck, comes into play.

Lulu’s will serve authentic Mexican tacos and skewers out of their tiny food truck. You can expect to find classic taco options alongside hard-to-find varieties like Cumella’s favorite, the crispy tripe taco. For skewers, think house-made chorizo skewers and marinated meats. Beyond Mexican staples, Ramirez and Head Chef Hugo Xochimitl—who comes from Puebla, Mexico—will dish out globally-inspired specials, fresh horchata, seasonal agua frescas, flan and more.

Lulu’s will press and griddle corn tortillas fresh daily and the menu options will flow with the seasons. Can’t wait for summer to get a taste of Lulu’s? Fret not. On Sunday, May 5, Gioia Mia is celebrating Cinco de Mayo by offering a preview of the Lulu’s concept to its guests. Instead of the normal Gioia Mia fare, a Lulu’s sample menu will be offered to guests to order from a la carte.

Reservations can be made here for Cinco de Mayo at Gioia Mia. Walk-ins are also welcome.
