“Tea” Up – Celebrate National Hot Tea Month in Hudson County

Abby Montanez

Although winter was late to the party, cold temperatures have arrived in classic January fashion. And as the chilly weather settles in, you start looking for any excuse to keep the iciness out. What better way to embrace the season then with a nice steaming cup of tea? It is National Hot Tea Month after all. Whether you’re drinking to heal, celebrate, or defrost, here are a few of our favorite spots to sip tea in Hoboken and Jersey City:

Empire Coffee & Tea Co. – Hoboken, NJ

@empirecoffeeandteaco

You don’t have to be a hipster to enjoy a cup of tea, but at Empire Coffee & Tea, that’s where you’ll find Hoboken’s most notorious crowd of young people. With free Wi-Fi, an outdoor patio, and a mind-blowing amount of assorted teas, from almond to vanilla, can you really blame them? You can also order tea by the box (or basket) through their website, so what’re you waiting for? Go warm up!

bwè kafe – Hoboken, NJ / Jersey City, NJ

If you’re looking for something outside of your norm, more eclectic, you’ll want to check out bwè kafe. Although they’re most known for their Haitian coffee and Japanese brewing style, they also serve specialty teas. You can order a pot of tea for two or try any of their iced selections. Either way, this is the type of place to sit down, relax, and stay awhile.

Turning Point – Hoboken, NJ

Besides being one of the hottest brunch spots in Hoboken, Turning Point also serves some of the best tasting tea in Hudson County. You can order any of their iced teas which are naturally flavored and sweetened with a variety of simple syrups, or you can order their hot loose leaf teas, served in 12oz tea pots. Did we mention free refills?

Maroon Café – Hoboken, NJ

After opening their second location in November of 2015, there is officially no excuse to not have visited Maroon Café at least once. They have a coffee and tea bar which serves up iced black or green tea, or hot whole leaf tea, in either a dark or light option. With a little something for everyone, either one of their locations is the perfect place to celebrate National Hot Tea Month.

Tea NJ – Jersey City, NJ

Just like their website mentions, “from tea-puccinos to lattes”, Tea NJ really does have it all: black, green, white, herbal, mate, oolong, and rooibos. Even their dining options range from carnivore to vegan! Feeling adventurous? Try their cider mixed tea, bubble, or milky, whatever floats your boat, (or in this case, cup of tea). Just head over and give it a try!

Vivi Bubble Tea – Hoboken, NJ

The best just got even better! On January 18, 2016, Vivi Bubble Tea announced that they are now offering delivery on all their menu items! Just imagine, bubble tea delivered right to your bedside. Ok, that might be a stretch, but the menu possibilities are endless. They offer both hot and cold bubble tea options to fulfill your every craving, which if you’re unfamiliar, is a tea-based drink mixed with fruit or milk and tapioca balls. Plus their ramen is pretty amazing too. So if you’re too sick to leave the house, or too warm to drag yourself out of bed, your favorite tea will now come right to you.

WORD Bookstore Café – Jersey City, NJ

Tucked away inside of WORD Bookstore is their in-store café. They brew Stumptown coffee and offer up Harney & Sons tea for sipping on, along with pastries, soups, and an array of fresh salads. This is the perfect place to cozy up with a good book and warm that icy chill away. If you’re an early riser, pay a visit to their walk-up window, opening at 8:00am, where you can heat up instantly with a cup of coffee, tea, or espresso.
