Wednesdays are rough. You want to be excited that you’re halfway through the week and can start making plans for the weekend, but on the other hand, there’s still the other half of the work week to endure. We want to make the transition to the end of the week as painless as possible, so here are our suggestions on how to overcome Hump Day:
Willie McBride’s Trivia Night
Digest editor Lauren and associate publisher Dave frequent Willie McBride’s Trivia Night to combat their Hump Day blues. They’ve got $3 Millers and $4 Heinekens. The fun begins around 8:30p.m.
I’ve dubbed Wednesdays as my personal “Wino Wednesday” where I come home from work to a bottle of wine all for myself. But if you want to get out of the house and still enjoy a glass or two, the Brass Rail in Hoboken partakes in their own version they call “Wine Down Wednesdays” with half-priced house wines beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing all night long.
Unwind at Lunch Time
If you tend to pack a lunch for work like I usually do, switch up your routine by designating Wednesday as your day to dine out. We have a list of our favorite grab and go or sit and stay spots around the area in our latest issue (starting on pg. 76) for you to use as a reference.
A simple way to overcome Hump Day can be done by breaking a bar of Hershey’s finest. If you don’t already know, dark chocolate can improve your mood by increasing serotonin and endorphin levels in the brain. It also contains more antioxidants than milk or white chocolate, so you won’t feel like you’re ruining your diet.
Cinnamon, like dark chocolate, has also been proven to be a stress reliever, so add some to your morning tea to start the day off right.
Find a New Favorite
For the homebodies who just want to rush home from work to throw on a pair of sweats, amp up your Hump Day by trying something new each week from the comfort of home. Make a new dinner recipe, try a different cocktail or beer (The Thirsty Quaker has new beers every week), pick up a new magazine or book, or rent a new movie from Netflix or Redbox. With all this experimenting, you’re bound to find your new favorite thing to chat with all your friends about.
Good luck in your Hump Day endeavors, and cheers to the (hopefully) fast approaching weekend.
