JC Fridays, a quarterly arts festival held in Jersey City, is back on September 5 with over 40 events dispersed across the city. Residents all over Jersey City and beyond can choose from a variety of programming with plenty of options for both families and adults to choose from, including visual arts, film/video, performance, music, and educational.
JC Fridays premiered in 2006, growing with each new iteration, expanding both its repertoire and reach. The festival was devised and continues to be curated by Art House Productions, a not-for-profit organization which has been a pioneering force of Jersey City’s arts community. Hosting events and classes in theater, dance, film, visual arts and music, Art House Productions provides Jersey City’s artists a platform for expression and collaboration.
Christine Goodman, a writer and actress who founded Art House Productions, says JC Fridays “came out of the desire to work with other arts organizations, to partner with arts friendly businesses and the city of Jersey City to promote the arts on a larger scale, and to introduce the public to artists and venues that they might not otherwise know about.” By bringing artists closer to their community, as well as shedding more light on local businesses and arts venues, JC Fridays became an immediate hit.
This upcoming JC Fridays kicks off Art House Productions’ fourteenth season, ushering in a new era for them in their brand new location at Journal Square. Located on the ground floor, right at the Journal Square Path, Art House Productions’ new home makes it convenient for people both within and outside of Jersey City to experience what artists in Jersey City have to offer. With a theater space and gallery, you can expect plenty more to come from Art House Productions.
“Our long range plan is to increase our theater season,” says Goodman about the future of Art House Productions. Having more performances during the year provides actors more opportunities to perform and writers more opportunities to submit. Most of Art House Productions’ plays are original and they always welcome submissions for consideration at email@example.com. Serious writers can also join INKubator, their professional script development collective.
In the mean time, enjoy JC Fridays on September 5, support the art community, local businesses, and experience what Art House Productions is all about.
